The Canesitter S holds all standard long canes (also called white canes). Here you can see the Canesitter S in a museum in gold with a brown clip

Imagine you suddenly need both hands free, but one hand is busy holding or tucking away the cane. Anyone who needs a white cane for protection and wants to momentarily set it aside—at every exhibit in a museum, in the voting booth to write, or at a piece of equipment in the fitness center—often searches in vain for a solution. A holder, a mount for the cane!

The word “Cane” is used for the white cane for blind individuals. The “Sitter” is a friendly guardian. That’s how the name “Canesitter” came about.

For the White Cane Canesitter “S” and also for a Walking Cane:
the Canesitter “+G”

The Canesitter S holds all standard white canes (also called long canes) up to approx. ø 13.5 mm. The Canesitter “+G” holds both white canes as well as all standard walking canes (also called hand cane, walking aid, or support cane).

The Canesitter +G is available in the same colors as the Canesitter S, namely black, white, gray, blue, red, brown, and yellow. With clips in black, white, or gray. From 15 pieces onward, additional colors for the housing or the clips can be delivered.

Option: Undermount Adapter

The Canesitter can also be mounted underneath the tabletop or console. Even on surfaces with a 20° incline. The undermount adapter can be attached from below with two screws or mounting adhesive, and the Canesitter is then screwed into the adapter.

The Canesitter can be color-matched to the exhibition design.

Over 60 color combinations are possible. The cane holders can be individually multicolored or monochromatic as needed.

As the examples above suggest, there are many other situations where the cane needs to be set aside quickly:

In restaurants, at the cloakroom, at home, in the office, in the dressing room, at an info desk, at every supermarket checkout (for paying and packing), in the restroom, at the consultation table, at the doctor’s office, at the desk in the office or school, at the service point, at the ATM, at a jeweler, at a theater seat, at the bank counter, on a bus, on a train, on a streetcar, on fitness equipment, at the counter, in the swimming pool, and so on. For all restaurants and hotels, as well as shipping lines and especially popular cruise ships, having Canesitters in the cabins and public areas is very practical and therefore recommended.

Canesitter – for more accessibility in your institution

Inclusion and accessibility are key issues for public institutions, museums, theaters, cafés and businesses that want to provide easy and equal access for people with disabilities. With the Canesitter, you can offer blind and visually impaired visitors and people who rely on walking aids an innovative way to safely store their aids and enjoy greater self-determination at the same time.

The Canesitter is a specially developed aid that is ideal for use in public buildings, cultural institutions, educational establishments or event venues. Its flexible attachment makes it easy to attach to tables, chairs, counters or walls, creating a barrier-free experience for your guests.

Why the Canesitter is indispensable in your establishment:

– Promoting accessibility: the canesitter shows that your institution is actively addressing the needs of people with disabilities.
– Hands free for more comfort: Whether at events, in the museum or in the café – the Canesitter makes it easy to store long canes and walking aids so that visitors can concentrate on their tasks.
– Versatile application options: Suitable for restaurants, hotels, libraries or doctors’ surgeries, where mobility aids often have to be placed impractically on the floor.
– Ergonomic and adaptable design: The Canesitter adapts to your furnishing concept without being disruptive – available in various colors and designs.

Order the Canesitter now and position yourself as a supporter of accessibility and inclusion.

How To: Insert the Clip

Inserting the clip is very quick.

How To: Placement

Where is the best place to attach the Canesitter? Most blind people carry the cane with their right hand and would look for a rest area on the right side. So it’s best to attach it to the front edge of a table or device on the right side, or very far forward on the right side.
Important note: Even when the cane is in the Canesitter, you should still have free access with both hands to text, functions, or the exhibit. The cane should not be in the way.
Sometimes the table or console material cannot be drilled from the side. And often presentation tables have a 20° slope. There is now an optional under-mount adapter for both cases.

How To: Mounting Technique from V.3.3

Feature: From V.3.3 on, the Canesitter has two recessed areas next to the center screw on the back.

Have a Torx10 screwdriver and a small hammer ready. If drilling is required, also have a drill, drill bits, and possibly a wall anchor. A level or a good eye is helpful.

  1. Mark where the center screw of the Canesitter will go.
  2. Mark 14 mm (Canesitter S) or 24 mm (Canesitter +G) to the right or left of the center screw as the point for the nail.
  3. Drill a hole for the center screw if needed.
  4. Tap the nail stud at your mark so that it is only sticking out by about 1 mm. The nail head simply ensures the Canesitter does not rotate.
  5. Insert the clip into the housing.
  6. The 3 mm screw is then driven through the center of the clip and the back of the Canesitter into the table or material. Use a Torx10 screwdriver. Stop immediately if the clip starts to tighten. This should NOT happen or it will be too tight for the cane.

How To: Mounting Technique with Adapter

From V.3.3 on, the Canesitter has two recessed areas next to the center screw on the back. The adapter has a connecting hole and two holes for mounting.

Have a small Phillips screwdriver ready. If drilling into the tabletop is required, also have a drill and drill bits. A thin marker, a ruler, and a good eye are helpful.

  1. Align the adapter flush with the front edge of the table and mark the two screws of the adapter at the desired mounting location (i.e., under the tabletop).
  2. Drill the two holes beforehand if needed or use a center punch.
  3. Insert the clip into the Canesitter housing with the clip’s foot first. There is a video above for this.
  4. Now connect the Canesitter to the adapter: Place the adapter with its internal nut housing on top of the table. Place the Canesitter with its logo facing down onto it. The raised areas on the adapter fit into the recessed areas on the back of the Canesitter housing.
  5. Then place the nut in the appropriate slot of the adapter (if not already installed).
  6. Now feed the screw (through the hole in the clip and the hole in the Canesitter housing) into the nut behind it. Tighten with a small Phillips screwdriver.
  7. Stop tightening immediately if the clip starts to compress. This should NOT happen; otherwise, it will be too tight for the cane.
  8. Finally, secure the combined Canesitter-adapter assembly to the tabletop (screws max Ø 3 mm).
